Biscayne Bay: Macs on the grass flats (2/21/13)

Took a few dozen pinfish out to the grass flats between the Venetian Causeway and 195 (Miami Beach). Fished the falling tide trying to target the trout on the edges of the flats. Caught over 20 trout, with only one over 20", the rest were between 15-18" (no gators today ). I was surprised to catch a few Spanish Macs, that was the first time I've caught em since I was a kid. They sure do pull for their size. One took me by surprise and almost ripped the pole out of my hand when I wasn't paying attention. I'll post one pic of the mac, I'm sure you all know what an 16" trout look like... Tight lines.

Nice catch. Macks are good to eat when fresh.

Macs and bluefish have been showing up quite frequently in the bay this year- first time in my 10 years of kayak fishing. I got 2 macs there in December on the north side of 195. I remember as a kid they would sometimes run through the Rickenbacker Causeway bridge.
