2/19/13 Sheepshead/trout report.

Every year i have the privilege of running a fishing tournament for the Waters Edge Motel and Apartments out of their marina in St James city on Pine Island..It is a fun event to be sure. It is a team event for the Sheepshead ,5 largest fish from each boat are weighed..There are two places for sheepshead. Two boats had the same weight 17lbs 15oz the tie is broken by the the longest fish from the five that were weighed..
More important where were they fishing The wall at RED fish pass,fresh and frozen shrimp were both working both boats had (4) fishermen that were on a constant hook up,the fish were stacked at the wall..
We also have a place for the largest single sheepshead we had one couple fishing together, first girl in many years Ida And Mitch..Here is were girl power comes in Ida took first with a 18 7/8 fish.I bet she was sleeping with a smile on her face..
One boat chose to fish the near shore Causeway reef to see what kind fish were moving in,boy did we catch a mixed bag sheeps to 17 inch,pompano,flounder,Spanish,gag to 23 inch,small grunts,Atlantic spade fish,mangrove snapper..
I was trying out a new to me CHUM KING i had just bought i also have access to a freezer full of frozen shrimp in one qt bags. i wold put two frozen bags lower it to the bottom shake it as they thawed and shortly after the bite would be on.
Trout was won by Larry T at 23 1/2 inch second place Jim G. 19 3/4 Nice work guys
pot luck food provided by some great cooks,it was great.
