20 MPH winds all day on the LMR

Thought today would be a good day to fish. It would be pre-front with some clouds. Little did I know how windy it would be. Launched out of Domino at 9:45am. Water temp was 70-74 during the day. Water was still going out but supposed to be a decent incoming tide later. Decided to hit my trout spot in the cut to the Commongood ramp. Picked up a 15 1/4" trout on the 3" mullet in redfish color at 10:03am. Two minutes later a 13 " trout on the same lure. No more strikes there so I headed back to work a few docks. No strikes.

I decided to head down river and work the long bank on the south side going towards the mouth. Had a couple of nice blow-ups on the spook but no connections. By now the wind was up and blowing hard. It had to be at least 15mph and closer to 20. Decided to hit the back entrance to Little CRB. Went in but still too low in there. Made my way to the mouth leading to the flat. Finally picked up a 20" red on the point on the 3" redfish at 12:15pm. Went out to the flat and worked near shore and then out to the first bar. No strikes. I zigzagged back and forth working the potholes but no strikes and very little activity. Only saw a few mullet jumping. It was rough out there. The wind was howling from the south and blowing me back to the mouth of the river.

I had had enough of the wind on the flat and went back up river to some mangroves and the north side. Pretty good depth in there. Still fighting the wind and paralleling the mangroves with the 4" mullet in new penny. Finally picked up a decent 20 1/4" redfish at 1:25pm. Worked it a bit more but blowing me into the bank. Made a move to the other side for some shade and mangroves again. Working the long bank going back up. There is always a lot of fish cruising in that area. Alternating between the spook and the 3" redfish. Threw into the channel and picked up a 21" snook on the 3" redfish at 2:19pm. Unfortunately that was my final fish of the day, other than a small snooklet I caught way up river on the spook.

I worked it till dark. I fished a spot SouthShoreSlayer showed me but no luck. I went back into an area I never fished before on the north side of the river that I believe leads into the Commongood area. A couple of blow-ups on the spook, but no takers. The bb and SSS cuts were unfishable due to the wind. Worked around the bb area and to the west of it. No luck. Back to another bank near the big bend. One small blow-up on the spook but nada. Back to the trout spot. No luck there or on the docks around the corner. Back to the shallow area behind the island in the SSS cut. Water depth was decent. Had a couple of follows and a couple of blow-ups on the spook but couldn't connect. Had one fish rush up to the bait and then put on the breaks. She followed for a bit but wouldn't take it. By then it was almost dark so I headed for the ramp. It was a tough day. The wind was unrelenting and problematic all day.

Well that's what happens when you get laid off and can't find a job.

I was a compliance/operations auditor, call center supervisor and credit analyst among other things. What kind of jobs are they looking to fill? Not that it matters. I will take anything about now. Thanks Gary. I will check out their site right now.

Don't forget them county jobs Dave! Lol, damn county workers. Btw, good job man. It's tough on a gnarly windy day. This front blowing in night likely do good things for the upriver bite. Today was also windy as all hell. You made the most of it though, you are one of the few people I know who rarely ever gets skunked, well never as far as I know, hahaha.

I would take a county job Grayson. I would much rather be working now than fishing. Thanks. I don't believe I have ever zeroed in saltwater. Happened all the time bass fishing here in FL. That is one of the reasons I don't bass fish anymore. Plus, sw fishing is 10x more fun. We need to get out some time.
