1/07 /13 fish fry trip out of red fish pass
My neighbors who are Canadians are here for the winter season asked me to schedule them in for a fish fry trip..Thursday looked good seas 1 to 2 ft planned to run about 14 to 16 miles out that has been good for what we were after grunts, porgys, grass porgys,lanes..Seas were more on the order of 2 to 4s with a steady 15mph wind and building..They met me at the marina as we were loading the boat i asked were were the extra clothes, jackets and wind breakers and such, they smiled and said not to worry they are Canadians . Well as we cleared the pass and a little offshore salt spray started to get them wet slowed down to 18 or 19 mph they were still getting wet by the time we we stopped they were pretty wet and cold. They took the wet t shirts off and put on the extra wind breakers and never took them off..Water temp of 67 or 68 wind 15 mph it can feel pretty cold..
My plan was to run to a few spots was put on hold so they could stay dry..Marked fish on first drop as soon as squid hit the bottom it was fish on i never had a rod in the water for the first 2 hours they were having a ball,, seas were building the one guy gets a little quiet..Then he leans and starts to throw his cookies..And boy did his friend rip on him offering
corned beef sandwich, cheese, another cold beer now that his stomach was empty..They were laughing all the time..I gave him a BONINE he took it and kept fishing..Caught enough good size fish for the fry threw a lot of small fish back.. A numbers of short reds one keeper size that posed for a picture and was happy to swim away..Plenty of break offs i rigged with small circle hooks 14 lb test leaders and med heavy spin rods..There were sharks circling the boat which added to the entertainment ..To busy to take pictures sorry..

Not where we were fishing. Only one other boat out it was a 6 pac maybe 34 ft. Inside the sound from St James city to the pass it looked OK.
