Started our day on the 4th catching a well full of bait. After the previous days fishing we had big expectations for some dolphin and sail action. Conditions changed We started where we had good action the previous 3 days for sails and mahi's. We caught a 12lb king and had a few others cut us off. We pushed offshore and caught some boneheads. Back inshore and we jumped a sail off and had another scissor lip us. Decided to do a little meat fishing to break up the monotony. We caught 4 AJ's to 25lbs, and an 18lb Gag Grouper. Decided to try to find some Cobia and we were successful catching 6 in an hr. 3 were keepers to 35lbs and 3 we let go.
This morning we fished a morning 1/2 and our client wanted to catch a sail for her birthday. Knowing we were up against a wall with the West wind I explained our probabilities. Anyway we started where we had been getting bites, No action
Ran offshore looking for an edge to fish and found nothing out to a mile East of the Hill. Power fished the hill with no bites.
Decided to go back to the honey hole for a while and wait it out, cried a little over the radio and double header of sails. SWEET... 1 came off immediately but the 2nd stayed on for a 57 minute battle. The first 45 of which was dead boat and then when we concluded the fish was wrapped up we did our best to catch it and set it free. Mission accomplished on our morning 1/2.
The afternoon guys wanted meat
No mahi action for the morning for the most part and none really the day before. Plan was AJ's and Cobia. Well we couldn't buy a bite from an AJ. However we caught 3 grouper to 30lbs, a couple of Genuine Reds to 22lbs and 2 cobia on our last spot. Both were keepers unfortunately the bigger one was attacked by a shark as I went to gaff it.
Oh well we got some dinner and I think they'll be back for Grouper season...
