South Mosquito lagoon, first real fish on fly

Went to the south end of Mosquito lagoon today. Saw a ton of good size trout, but they were super spooky, or didn't want anything to do with our bait/flies.
We had perfect weather today and my buddy spotted a few trout laying in a sand hole from the platform. My first fish on this rod, and 2nd on fly (first being a small lady fish). Had some good shots today but they would follow and then refuse. Not sure if that's something I'm doing wrong, wrong fly selection, or just skittish fish.

Big trout can be very skittish, especially if they see you first. I have had many follows but no takes all the way to almost the rod tip sometimes. Drives ya crazy. Sometimes they'll charge it and open wide but NOT suck it in. That one always gets me. Don't have a clue why.
But still fun.

You're not kidding! Guess we need to get better at spotting them further out. I had a red follow it to the boat almost and then think better of it. Sucks, he would have been a nice catch to go along with the trout.
