Hooked up with Jon B. and his friend Chris H. Jon is an inshore guide up in St. Petersburg, FL. They both have never caught a peacock before so today was extra special for me. Putting people on fish is an awesome feeling but to knock off a species off anyone's bucket list is even better, times two!
We met at a local park and headed out to a lake a few minutes away for some local livies and with two truck full of lures, we set out to target some Miami butterfly peacocks. We had a tough time sighting for them with the overcast skies and howling winds but we managed to get on some decent peas and caught a few other exotics all over Miami. This pea was the ice breaker in the am.
Working artificials through canal end plugs, Jon hooks up with a few spotted tilapias and mayan cichlids.

As most of the canals and lakes are down 1-3 feet, it makes the peacocks sit a bit deeper. You may not see them but if an area looks good, it probably is. The only way to find out is to get some lines wet. After we had a few under the belt, we headed off on the "Urban Run 'n Gun", making a quick pit stop for some authentic Cuban coffee and pastries. We hit up a few spots today and produced fish at every location. Here is how the rest of the morning and day went, tagging four species in the fresh stuff.
All-in-all, we had a bunch of fun and it was great to meet these guys. Good Times & Tight Lines is how I like to roll. Thanks for checking out my report. Much more pics, vids, articles, & reports in the making.
