SKA Kingfish Tourney in Key West

No, this isn't a first hand report, but it is a matter of record.

I was at the weigh-in Sunday and there were some quality fish brought to the dock. So it's easy to say that there are some BIG Kings down here.

Big fish of the tourney was a 56.44 caught by the "Unreel Fishing Team". Capt Billy Delph was running the boat and Capt Sam Shaw was on the deck with the anglers.

If you wanted to be in the money....you had to have something over 51.5lbs.

On Saturday, there was a BIG king brought in that had been bit by a shark. Obviously, as a mutilated fish, it would count in the tourney. They hung it on the scale just to check it out... what was left of the fish (minus missing tail and big chunk) almost beat the winning fish. Needless to say, had the Shark not gotten a piece of it, it would have been the winner.

I was there for that fish, that was a real shame. There was so much missing they had to kind of lasso it to weight it since there was nothing left of a tail and a good quarter of the lower half missing. Fish was still 56 lbs I think.

I fished the tournament this weekend, a lot of fun, big fish and big seas. The could not find a big one we only weighed in a 22 pounder. If this would of been a Wahoo tournament we would done pretty damn good, we landed two one 50# and the other 40#.

I'm pretty sure the Winner came from West of Rebecca.

That's awesome. Some really nice fish. Here in the upper keys we've had a few nice kings, but not really anything like that so far and no where near the numbers of kingfish we normally see for this time of year. Luckily the rest of the fishing has made up for it.

I hear there is going to be a kingfish tourney in key largo next sat. The weather looks like it might be windy though. Anyone thinking about entering?

that fish would have been massive, its too bad it was bitten. Sounds like it was a great tournament for many.
