Whiting on Fly

Focused on whiting for three days and finally came through with the right technique. Anchored up in 5' of water (about 50' from shore) the Canaveral Bite with a Southward current wrapping the point of the bite. Through out a chum bag and started blind casting. Hooked up on whiting from 11 oz to 2 lbs using a partially sinking line. Pretty cool when you hit the targeted species. Had to work through small jacks and blues.

I was surprised how good it was, infact it was great tasting. I made a platter with whiting and tripletail and more people choose the whiting over tripltail!

Never thought to fly fish for whiting. great job!

I caught one a couple weeks ago just outside the mouth of the Crystal River along w/ some trout on a orange & black Clouser. It was a first for me and tasted way better than the trout!!!

Regular menhaden / sardine chum or something shrimpy? Did the fly pattern matter?

They are a great eating fish although I don't think they quite beat tripletail..
