Displaying GBH at John MacArthur State Park. There are two females outside the right of the frame. This critter eventually chased one of the females back into the mangroves.

Craig...
another great image...
i have been following your documentation of the behavior of the gbh's with interest as well as the quality of the images...
we have 3 pairs of gbh's that started nesting on the homestead after katrina....
in over a 100 years of family occupation here, there were never any nesting here on the family homestead...
now...every spring...we look forward to watch their activity...
ours are a month or so behind yours for the rituals and nesting...
they are indeed fun to watch and photograph....
thanks for sharing....

The Real White Dog
if you can't catch a fish...catch a buzz....
Makes sense you are about a month behind South FL, since you are to the north. Are you on Facebook? If not I will send you information, another way, about a woman in east TX who runs a GBH rescue facility. We communicated a few times, she is very nice. The things she tries to talk to me about would be more relevant to you because of (somewhat) more similar weather patterns. She is very knowledgeable and I am sure would like to hear your story.

From today.
1. testing new wings.
2.
3. This adult thought I was too close, I guess. There is no crop - this is right from the camera - thought a 300mm lens.
4. The Great Egret displaying. The egrests are ready and about 2 weeks early as my notes report.
5. Purple Gallinule. I almost never get them out in the good light. The like to hide out in the shadows.

That's far better than any PB shot I have managed to get. I only recently found some areas that they frequent. They are beautiful birds for sure.
