"Sandy" reels!

Well, I got a box of reels from a customer in NJ...and he let me know before shipping them that they were underwater in his basement for a while. He had managed to strip the line....and ship them to me.

I have had "dunked" reels before, so I had a procedure that I was comfortable with...

Here are some pics of what I have done so far...

This is my cleaning stations....that is a gallon of WD-40 in each of those trays

As you can see by the following pics...lots of sand in these reels

But after a bit of dunking, and cleaning...they are ready to go back together...

I've actually gotten two boxes of reels from folks up that a way....

The second set had been in water mixed with Thompsons water seal....so I had the residue to deal with as well..

Most reels spent time in the parts washers I have set up as well as the trays. Continuously flushing them with mineral spirits removed most of it, and then some hand work with 4/0 steel wool....
