I likes the video, i didnt know they were that different. How much noise do the new etec make?
The Evinrude had a quieter idle than the Merc due to the Merc exhaust was directed downward to the water and caused a splashing sound. You can see that in the video as they are preparing the straps for the tug-of-war.
For the last 10 years the E-TECs are close to the 4-strokes for quietness at idle and have a more pleasing tone at high speeds, along with being quieter than some 4- strokes.
With either the E-TEC or a newer 4-stroke, you can have a normal conversation at cruising speeds.

My opinion based on personal experience with the 115's is the proxs has the etec beat slightly on everything except low end torque, noise and looks (Merc needs a new designer, those things look like crap).
Of course marketing doesn't care because they would get it handed to them by Merc in the 2 stroke vs 2 stroke! Just saying and i owned both a 115 & a 175 Pro XS along with a 150 HO and there is no comparison the Merc is better!
