    Frosty fishing 12-23-12 (late report)

    Hello west central forum peeps,

Due to the hustle of the holiday, I was unable to post a report until now so it's a little late.

Went out with my brother and his wife to do catch some dock monsters. When I launched the boat, the temps were in the mid 40's so it was a little chilly. The upside to that is I was the only person at the ramp. Only saw a few boats out.

We hit some docks that only seem to produce when it's super cold. We fished with shrimp and caught 11 reds, 4 sheeps heads and 6 snook. All the snook were really small but it was nice to catch a few. We had 3 times when we doubled up.

It was great to spend time with family and catch some quality fish. My brother and I don't get to fish together that much anymore so it was cool to get him on the boat and bend some rods.

Here are some pics from the day

Thanks guys. I love fishing the docks this time of year. Locking that drag down and setting that hook like I was on a bass fishing show makes me smile every time.

Looks like its going to be another cold weekend and some really low tides in the morning. Should be good for pothole and doc fishing.

Do you free line your shrimp or fish them under a float? weight or no weight?

I fish the shrimp on a mission fishin 1/16 or 1/8 jig head. I remove the flaps and pointy part of the tail and hook the bait from bottom to top between the soft part of the body and what's left of the hard part of the tail.

Lately, the smaller shrimp have been working better.

Every so often, I'll lift the shrimp off the bottom and let if fall back to the bottom.

Better late than never. Looks like a good day.
