I look for mangroves with at least 3 ft of depth. We were using whitebait ( scaled sardines ) we caught at the Skyway. I have had bait up at the 75 bridge in the river but after 45 min they started getting weak so I ran back down river to keep them alive. When you are fishing the mangroves if you are not losing tackle you are not getting close enough.

We went out Thursday from 12 - 5:30pm. Got real windy after about 2:30. Hooked up on some trout and reds by some old docks on the north side. Fished both 301 and 75 bridges but only got one trout. Water was not moving real well until about 3 when it got pretty windy. We were fishing shrimp, some chubs (nothing on those), spoons, mirrodines (most successful), reddish color jerk baits (nothing - but I am not real experienced on working those). Will be out next week working farther up river where it gets deeper now that the water has gotten a good shot of cold.

sounds to me that even though conditions werent spot on u still had a fun day of fishin, cant wait to come back.
