We trying to plan out the kids first camping trip. Any recommendations on camping opportunities in the area. We'll definitely need a spot with facilities. Also is there a place in Gainesville to rent equipment? I need to find a tent and am not really ready to purchase one until we see how the kids like it. Thanks!

If you are on low budget, I hear Tent City in downtown Gainesville is nice.

I'm not sure if the kids are ready for that kind of learning experience.
Ginnie Springs is nice, especially this time of year - no crowds. A bit pricey, but you can rent canoe, and they have hot showers.

If you camp near the coastal water those NoSeeUms where terrible the other day--Bug Spray a Must anywhere.
Manatee Springs in Chiefland has showers and nice camp sites and plenty of things to do like canoe rentals and hiking. It's been several years since I have camped there but the wildlife is very friendly and easy it's to see deer and other things like maybe a manatee.
