You may NOT spearfish (excluding bowhunting and gigging) as described below:
Spearfishing of marine and freshwater species in freshwater is prohibited. Possession of a spear gun in or on freshwater is also prohibited.
I have been spearfishing several times in areas where you have to put in on the river to reach the Gulf, and have even had FWC check the boat with no concern about us having the guns on board.
I realize the law is written and is to be interpreted literally, but this part is BS as there are some areas (Homoesassa, Crystal River) where the only way to access saltwater is to go through the river.
Is this part of the law ever enforced? How would one go about trying to change this. Simply having a speargun on board should not be prohibited in my opinion.
