I just use butterfly jigs. Or use a heavy jig head with a white or brown soft bait.

have you been fishing closer to the rocks or drifting near the channel?

You must be fishing too high in the water column.

i went out there with white trout one day and they were still eating my bait.

yeah, I saw the commercial netters out there throwing the big cast nets on the rocks off the east jetty and coming up with mad bluefish... they are also all over the rocks in the kiddie pool area... If you want bluefish, fish those areas! If you want reds, look around
