Been posting more in the WC section, than the paddlecraft, but thought I would share. Headed out with a buddy in the yaks to an area I had been spotting some good size snook lately that I wanted to try at night. I have been catching fish all week, but some of the bigger ones were alluding me. Decided to fish the incoming Friday night, and it crept in all night- never really moved fast. Hind sight says we should have hit outgoing, but that is part of learning new spots.
Anyway, after our fair share of trout, ladies, and any other random fish, we went back to the spot I had seen them holding and started to drift large live shrimp through the zone. I started to say to my buddy, " man relatively slow nigh..." And stopped short to finish with "until I hook a good one!!"
The fight was on and in the dark all I could hear was a couple attempts at jumps that ended up sounding more like mini shamu belly flops. 7' 6" St Croix Premier with Shimano Spheros 4000, 8lb test, 30 lb leader, screaming runs at mangroves, and finally I had her boat side for a couple quick pics and a long revival. Very healthy and fat fish, I would estimate around 15 lbs!!
Get out and enjoy our wonderful FL weather...the fish are out there waiting!
