A friend caught one on my boat on the inside of Ponce Inlet. It gave him a good dousing of water from its jets and chased him around the boat. It was entertaining.

Wow, I stand corrected... Nice article, there's also a good one on Nat Geo's site that says while all are venomous to some extent, only the "blue ringed" octo is a threat to people... Never knew that and was bitten in palm beach when I was about 16, while snorkeling, had no effect. Might be similar to a bee sting, some people react and some don't.

Congrats, newlywed. Next time, if there is next time cut him up and throw him in some gumbo. Yummy.
Welcome!

Thank you everyone for your responses and welcoming. And I actually did end up keeping it after a 20 min phone conversation," actually more on hold", with the fwc as I didn't know whether or not it would be legal to keep it or not and it didn't seem like they knew for sure till they called me back and gave me the ok. I grew up eating octopus in my moms seafood soup or conch soup something typical for Honduras where my parents are from. And as far as the black drum still no luck :( Well I'll keep at it and am glad to be a part of the fs forum and hopefully will have something to report soon as I continue on my quest for my friends fish dinner lol he might just end up eating octopus
Wish me luck

Catching octopus surf fishing with artificials! Now that is a first that I know of. I have caught a several in the middle grounds and the Tugas but only one out of Jax. Around nine mile I think. It dropped off the hook into the boat so I just let him crawl around for minute while helping my buddy with a fish. Turned back around and he was making a line for the anchor locker!
Another time in the Tugas we had one (a big one) join the squid and flyers swimming around in the lights. Pretty neat to see him hunting up on the surface especially considering we were fishing 240 feet!

I got one once on the inside of Matanzas. We were fishing the ledge over by the rocks. I,ve also gotten a few squid in the castnet in that area.

Back in the day my grandpa and I used to catch them for the tanks at marineland. We would set out 3-4 pipes on floats usually near docks or rocks and we always seemed to get a few after a day or so. We pull in the pipe and they were inside. Get them from Marineland all the way to the inlet but most back in Summerhaven creeks by the docks where all the sand is now. That was always fun stuff
