11/20/12 High Tide Arti Throwing from the Yaks

Decided to do a little fishing this afternoon with the flood tide. I have not tried flood tide fishing in the middle of the day yet and figured I would give it a try. Was joined by a buddy of mine and we were off by about 1.

Pulled up to my first flood flatt and saw 1 tail. He then disappeared so we moved to the next flat.

Pulled up to the second flatt and saw nothing, looked a little more before we decided to just start working the creeks and islands.

    Then it was on.

My buddy was throwing a rootbeer DOA shrimp and flipped up along the grass and I heard his drag start screaming and the yak took off.
After a good little fight we had our first red of the day.

Then we worked our way out of a creek where we each picked up a trout or two and I pulled in a little blue fish.

Pulled up on one of my favorite oyster bed/ grass island and threw my spinner up in the thin grass and it got slammed. My turn for the sleigh ride. After another good fight I bring this bad boy into my yak

we kept working more islands and shorelines and picked up a trout or two here or there. Saw a few reds tails and were running out of water so we had to call it a day.

No lengths on the fish but they were both solid.

Not a bad way to play hooky from school.

Nice report.... I was waiting for the flood tide on Sunday but the weather was so bad I paddled back before it got high enough.

trial and error. most of the time the tide charts are pretty accurate (not really) on what the tide height will be. take notes of patterns and spots of what floods at what heights. learn how the moon effects the tides and when they will be higher than average. also take into consideration noreasters as they will push higher tides.

when there is going to be a flood tide get to your spots as the tide is comming in and follow it up...as soon as it slacks and starts flowing back off it will still be flooded for a bit but ive noticed for the most part that the fish will get off the flats when the tide turns.
