I'm not sure why there is no meta data. I used a Nikon D300 and a 300mm f4 af-s lens with a 1.4x teleconverter.
I know if you use PS it tends to strip meta data.

Photoshop or Elements will strip the data if you use Save for the Web instead of just Save As. Never use Save for the Web for that and many other reasons.
You can use Save for the Web and not strip EXIF. There's a drop menu that is called Meta Data. Its default is Copyright Notice. Change it to ALL and you'll save metadata. I'd just not use Save for the Web.
