Coo Coo Cay No Fishing Allowed

I returned last Friday from a RC cruise to the Bahamas and their private island Coo Coo Cay. I read a previous post that someone had fished on the flats around
the island. I fished for 15 minutes before an employee told me fishing wasn't allowed on the island. Ten minutes later as I was walking on a dirt road away from
the beach I was picked up by security and taken to the "island boss", who explained that fishing isn't permitted on Coo Coo Cay. One of the reasons I went on this cruise was to fish.

I got some runners and a small bone before getting picked off myself... That was like ten years ago. That one flat shows unreal promise...

I believe its because they cant sell you a fishing permit on the island. Sorry and their are some locals who watch this very closely!

You don't need a fishing permit if you are fishing from shore - the fishing permit is issued to a boat.

Maybe you can try trolling while the boat is at sea, haha. You would think they'd try to capitalize on that and do half-day charters or something

I was able to pull it off back in 2007. I walked down the beach almost as far as I could and broke out my collapsible pole. I used some Gulp I had brought and was casting side armed. I had one pick up from a big bone but the hook didn't set. My wife wanted to snorkel out there so I stopped fishing and joined her. We were the only two in the water down there, saw a ton of fish. It was pretty cool.
