    davit motor key largo

I so wanted my first post on this forum to be in the fishing report section. However, after arriving from the snowy north...yes there was snow in Toronto when we left yesterday; I have faced a small challenge at my inlaws when I tried to put their boat in the water. The traverse davit motor has seized and just makes a hummmm when I try to activate it. I have given it a couple of love taps with the hammer. No Joy. It doesn't look too hard to replace however other than the KLI down the street I have no idea where to go to pick up a replacement in the Key Largo area. I don't even know if KLI will carry them. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I run around all day. I really want to have my first post in the reports section and tomorrow is my only chance to go out...If I can get the boat in the water. HELP!
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Derek

Sound as though you did it. Hopefully you will get out & post some great pic. Also welcome to the Forum & I hope you enjoy your stay. BTW What is this thing you call snow? Also way way back I used to enjoy fishing for Kings & steelhead in the Credit River. Do you know if it is still happening?

Just south of KLI,,,, is HOBO's,,, right next to it is All Keys Boat Lift (A- Frame building). 305-453-0076 Nice gals,,, they did my lift. If they don;t have it I'm sure they can tell you where to find one.

Thank you for the welcome and pointing me in the right direction. It is greatly appreciated. I will give the old man the info an hopefully the motor will be replaced before I get to come back in a few months. @ Sparse grey. Yep Steelhead fishery is still strong on the Credit river. They stock the river system with steelhead, browns and atlantic salmon. I actually live in Georgetown and the Credit runs right through our town. I must admit I spend nearly all of my 'fishing' time on Georgian Bay targeting Pike, Muskie and Pickerel/Walleye.
    Thanks again guys
    Cheers,
    Derek

I had the same problem a few years ago, the motor just hummed, I assumed it was a bad motor, it turned out the motor was good, but the drum switch was bad.So you might want to check the motor first by bypassing the switch.

Thanks mikeloew. I didn't think the motor was bad. I know often burnt out motors smell...well burnt out. I am back home now and the old man gave the motor to one of his local friends/handyman to have a look at and replace if necessary. I will pass the info re bypassing the switch. I appreciate your help.
    thx
