I shot this buck on Saturday morning at 7:40 on my lease in Fargo, Ga near the Okeefenokee. I had one those mornings you dream about. I had a nice 8 come in from an overgrown clear cut with dog fennels head high. He caught me in my stand, and after a 5 minute stare down, he finally relaxed and when he went behind a bush, i was able to stand and get my bow. At that point he started to stare down an abandoned road, and here comes a 6, a smaller 8 and this deer. After a few minutes browsing around, they start making there way to my stand. At 25 yards i had to wait to make sure none of the bucks were looking and i drew and let the arrow fly. He ran about 30 yds and started walking and immediately i thought to myself, oh crap i guess i liver or gut shot him. He ended up bedding down in the dog fennels 60 yards away. Meanwhile, all the other bucks are wondering what the heck just took place and slowly drifted back across the road. An hour later, he comes the nice 8 again and comes in to 10 yds, with a perfect broadside shot, but i passed on him in hopes of being able to let me SIL take him. Thinking that i had shot too far back, at around 10:30 i snuck out to grab some lunch and we came back and he was right where he had bedded. The shot was perfect, on the pic that is the exit hole.
Here's a pic from my stand, i'm sitting in a pine block on the edge of the clear cut.
