Offshore Saturday 9/1/12

Got a late start saturaday morning but decided to run offshore anyway. Stopped at bug and bait was tough, couldnt get anything but 2lb runners. Gave up on bait and ran offshore. In 400 found 2 frigats circling and decided to troll. After 10 min without a hit we agreed to pick up and continue running. In 1000 we found a huge flock of frigats circling and diving on fish. On our first pass, both rods start screaming and up comes two 10lb skipjacks. Second pass gets a nice dolphin and third gets another skipjack. While fighting the skipjack we drifted across a five gallon bucket which we kept our eye on. After landing the last skipjack we ran over to the bucket and dropped a vertical jig. First drop gets an almaco. Second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth get wahoo. Right before we left this bucket we landed another nice dolphin. After this we called it quits because it was 4:00 and getting choppy. Here are some pics.

Honestly this was the first time I've caught wahoo on jig. All I did was drop it down 100 ft and jig it normally. Within 10 seconds I would hook one

Nice job guys. But do you really think keeping those two Weehoos was worth it? You should have let those little guys go so that they could grow and be cought again at a bigger weight. other than that nice job!

Yeah one of 'em is really small, there is no size limit only 2 pp per day. Sashimi is typically better with smaller fish...maybe thats why?

The tiny one was the first one caught and yes sashimi is much better with the little ones

Caught 4 weehoos out in 800 feet today. They are all over the weed lines.

dropping a vertical jig while fishing floaters is always a good idea!
