    Ft. Pierce Tarpon

Does anybody have any pointers to increasing my odds of catching a tarpon in the Ft. Pierce area. I am still building my confidence while on my kayak but I was thinking that launching in the surf during the fall mullet run was going to be my best bet. Will that be the best bet or am I looking at this the wrong way. Plus does anyone have a good place to lauch in the area that is close to some docks.

I would give Big Mud Creek a try. It is located right by the power plant out there. The actual river is blocked off since 911 but you can fish the mouth just fine. That area is always loaded with big tarpon this time of the year. There is a dirt ramp you can launch from at little mud creek. Make sure to cover up and bring plenty of bug spray because they will tear you up out there.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it, do you think live bait would be best or should I go with some type of swim bait.

I would personally go for live bait. There are sandbars on both sides of the creek mouth that are usually loaded with mullet. I have always had luck with live or cut mullet. The creek is pretty deep, I believe 40 feet in some areas. In the morning hours you will see them rolling and they might take an artificial. As the water heats up I think they tend to hold a little deeper.

Once again thanks alot, I have hooked into several but have never had the pleasure of bringing one to the side of my kayak. What would you suggest as an artificial?

Anytime man. I don't have too much experience with artificial but if I were to guess id say some kind of mullet imitation. For top water a mullet colored Top Dog or something similar. For suspending a mullet colored Catch 2000. DOA makes some nice mullet imitations such as the baitbuster, swimming mullet, and big fish lure. The DOA Terrorize always seems to be a tarpon favorite but I don't have much experience with it.

You are treasure trove of info and I appreciate it. If I get lucky and get some pics of one you are the first to see them.
