40 pound dolphin, bite is picking up - 6/30/12

Dolphin bite has been steady, even during the unfavorable winds. Lots of schoolie's on the edge with scattered decent sized fish out deeper. We caught a 40 pounder and some gaffers this past Saturday. Wreck fishing has been decent with some mutton and a few jacks around if you hit them before the other boats. Still a couple sails around on the edge when conditions look right but otherwise it's time to switch gears into summer fishing mode.

Great dolphin! How far out are you generally finding them? I was just out this Sunday off of Islamorada and they were really far out. Looking to head out of Miami this Friday and hoping to not have to go so far for them. Thanks for posting and I hope we get another wave of them coming through.

Down in the Keys the average run for phins can be further. They've been on the edge out to the middle of the stream here off Miami. It does vary daily though. This guy was caught in 1200'
