My son and I met up with my buddy Ray to go soak some shrimp and maybe poke our nose out the jetties and check for cobia, sea's permitting. We didn't get out there until about noon and everyone with a boat was there as well. So we motor around the north jetty in his G3 Jon boat and after a few hundred yards we see our first pogy pod and decide to get some for bait. I figured I would throw my jig through there just for the heck of it. On my second cast a huge brown shape comes out of the pod and inhales my big ugly jig. Now the fight is on for about 45 min. in the middle of numerous boats. The first gaff attempt was an epic fail, but the hook stayed attached. The second gaff attempt hit its mark and we hoisted her over the gunnel. After some hoots, hollers and high fives we were on the search again, but our luck ran out. We decided to call it a day, especially sine she wouldn't fit in the cooler and we had a wet towel on top of her. Great trip, I love it when a plan comes together, she went 56lbs on the Boca. Saw one nice Tripletail with lock jaw. Pics to come.
