Not only was Jose a great guide but he was a great person. I started fishing in Key West the same year that Spanish Fly first aired on ESPN and Jose was already one of the most respected captains out there. He was a true rock star in the fishing world but never acted that way. In addition to being a regular participant in the Redbone/Cystic Fibrosis series of tournaments, he was also very involved with Make-a-Wish and several military related charities. I watched people walk up to him with cameras and autograph books while he was pumping gas at Murray Marine and he always wound up talking to them like they were old friends. Everyone who thinks about guiding as a career should look up to Jose Wejebe as a true role model. This is a sad loss but a great life for others to emulate. He really was the best.
