Shark Fly Tourny/backcountry reports Mid march****

Well Guys, the Keys are hopping with people and the wind has been strong (maybee the windy'st march Ive ever seen), with the average being 20 MPH and a week of 25-30.. well we had to do some comprimising and trailer over the flamingo to fish in WW bay because of the wind, its been a few years since i fished that part of the glades, but some of the ol bushes still held some reds and snook , nothing big but still good fishing for 30 outta the east.. some small poons around in the canals to be able to complete slams of Tarpon, reds and snook. the spring breakers we are here and most of the trips have consisted with mom dad and the kids so we have been putting a hurting on the trout with the family fun fishing ( there have been some big 24-28" fish mixed in) in florida bay and the flamingo area..!

the wind layed down a little for us so we did some trip up into and around the cape and North, and the snook bite was great for us, we caught a dozen or so and lost some Pigs, the usuall reds and trout also..

the highlight of this past wekk was the 3rd annual Islamorada Shark fly tournament, I had the pleasure of fishing Bill Brewer of Jupiter in this years event, on day 1 we saw 0 sharks and covered over 100 miles of water--we were bummed, on day 2 we rolled the dice and found the mother load of Lemon sharks, Bill was either casting or fighting a fish from 8:30 am to 3:30 Pm, it was an all out all blitz, they were eating off the bow in groups of 20, bill hooked over 24 landing 12 lemons.. On day 1 Capt Steve Freidman and his dad had 7 sharks and day 2 had 5.. so we were tied with a dozen each.. Capt Steve had a black tip and a Bull mixed in with the 10 lemons so he won first on points with us in second and Capt Kozmo in 3rd with 6 fish.. it was a great event to support Keys schools marine departments.. We will be there next year again..

Tarpon are showing up and the weather is looking better (till wendsday anyhow) LOL....
