Well we are finally here in Stuart Florida, it was my goal on arrival to catch a snook, a redfish, and a pompano (three fish ive never caught).... its been two solid days of working on the Lil' Traveler to have it fish ready, and it looks like it will be wet and in her slip sometime tomorrow morning.
Today the wind was terrible, 20-25 out of the north west, but i decided regardless i needed to go catch fish.
I scouted some areas and found one that looked promising, in the lee of a small backwater island , totally protected from the , that had a grass flat that extended 50 or so yards before dropping of into deeper water.
I started throwing DOA shrimp but with little to show, i knew there were fish there as i continued to see bait harrassed all around and lady fish jumping as well.
I switched to a catch 2000 in pink and yellow, and caught a big lady fish my first cast, i continued to catch lady fish almost every cast there after and was having alot of fun. I was just about to find a new area to get away from the lady fish when it happened.
My catch 2000 gets slammed , i know its not a lady fish because the fish takes a 50 yards of line off my stradic ci4 on its first run, it then comes back at me and i do all i can to keep the line taught, it then races up the flat in only a few inches of water pushing water and creating a big wake.
The fish takes some awesome runs in super shallow water before i was able to grab her lip. A 34" inch snook aroundd 15 pounds, hits the beach and the 1st fish on my florida "to catch list" is crossed off.
The fish was over the slot limit so i revived her for a minute or too and watched her swim off strong...talk about an absolutely awesome
fish... I was shocked at how hard they fight, it puts a 34" striper to shame
the boat will be in tomorrow and more reports/pictures to come.
