2nd hand fishing reports, their here!!
Talked to a couple of friends that got out Thursday and they talked to some of their friends who got out earlier in the week.
Dolphin: The run has begun and there are some very nice fish being caught. Wednesday the Jody Lynn and Endless Summer hammered the dolphin, loading up their carts with 30-40 dolphin apiece. Story for that day was the fish were out in 1200-1400 foot of water, but they were there. Yesterday boat caught 4 dolphin, but 2 were over the 30lb mark and the other 2 were over 20 lbs. They caught one fish on the ledge and the other 3 on the secondary ledge out in 800-850 (6-7 out from the main ledge).
Cobia:Thursday, boat found pogies south of St Augustine inlet and found cobia on the pods. The problem was that the fish had lock jaw. I have read other reports that other fishermen have found the fish but would not bite. They found 3 other cobia, but same results, throwing the tackle box at them along with live bait, no takers. They then went offshore and pounded giant snapper and some big AJ's inside of 25 miles. On the way in, around 50 foot they ran over 2 very large cobia. They turned around, but the fish had sounded.
Having jazzed everyone to go fishing, we are still trying to figure out the sea state report. It has not changed from Wednesday (as I was hoping it would). Here is the forecast from NOAA. If you go, be safe and good luck, please drop a report for the rest of us poor souls drooling to get a line wet.
NOAA has updated the forecast:
SOUTH WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 4 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD
SOUTH SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO
4 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 9 SECONDS.
SOUTH WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 5 FEET
WITH OCCASIONAL SEAS UP TO 6 FEET. DOMINANT PERIOD 5 SECONDS.
