If you like what you have, stay with it. Run it till it dies, go from there!
I'd buy a Tow Boat membership and a hand held VHS, just in case.
Mean while find a shop that rebuilds older OMC's. Those older engines
    were pretty reliable.

What he said, there is a reason Yamaha used Evinrude blue prints to build their engines.

I've been doing a lot of research and trying to find the best deal for me. I found a newer 90 4stroke Yamaha (2014) $6900 looks good in the pics but... also a 75 hp Yamaha for $4800 and I thought it would be lighter but no it's the same motor just must be detuned. all of these motors are heaver than my Johnson like 50 or 60 lbs hanging off the transom and I still have to change gauges and cables and wiring harness. Then I see a 1998 90 hp Johnson, looks good in the pics and is priced at $3000 and it would be a unbolt one and bolt in the new one and I could keep mine for parts (maybe). I have always had Tow Boat since 1999, never used it but it's nice knowing it's there and a newer fixed mount.
When all else fails...jiggle that wire:\

There you go. That'll keep you going now - get the other one re-built on your terms, sell it, keep it till the 90 croaks, whatever.

Buddy of mine has a 96 johnson 90 and he's never had it rebuilt, he just does routine maintenance on it and it runs like a top. I think he's run pump gas through it for the last 20 years too.

    Good luck!
