    Fort Myers Offshore 12/12

Had some clients from Wisconsin that wanted to run offshore this past weekend. Loaded up with pilchards in one throw of the net, and ran out to a shrimp boat in 100'. Immediately set up and began live chumming pilchards, shortly we had a few baracudas boat side. Took the wire off and the AJ's began biting, the bigger ones have made a big push in closer and there is an abundance of them offshore. Some of the bigger ones may have been in the 80-90lb range. Live chumming fired everything up out there, before we left the wreck about a 100 yards back there was a big school of 50-75 AJ's cruising the waves pretty spectacular. Decided to go land some snapper for the group, caught a bunch of mangroves and some big lanes for the box. They said it was plenty for dinner for the next few nights. Stopped one last time on a nice hard bottom area and Matt reels in a beautiful 35" gag on my 5k Saragosa on a 10-20lb class rod. What a fight and a beautiful fish, these big boys are just now starting to really push in near shore.

Two weeks ago we did have a banner Cobia day off Ft Myers Beach, we kept 3 cobias all 37" long. We boated a total of 20, and had 7 that we released were keepers. Last weekend did a two hour trip out with my Father and I, caught our cobia limit, and also one smoker 35lb king and a 15lber as well.

Have a few hours in the morning may be offshore tomorrow, lots of kingfish in the mix offshore. That will be the main target for a smoker or two.

Any Kings or Cobes show up for the party last night? Thinking of doing something similar a little further south of you. I have been catching a good amount of kingfish, and tarpon during the daytime on the nearshore marks. Looking to get something that is edible next time around.

None at night, cobia bite has slowed down now. Two weeks ago we caught the migration just right and landed 20 boatside. Plenty of kings everywhere, day time my nearshore spots hvent been producing nearly as many mangroves as they should this time of year. Main targets for me tomorrow will be kings and cobia. Will probably fly the kites for fun if the report stays windy.

Did a 6 hour trip this morning, live chummed for the kings but they did not show up today. Landed one cobia, a first for our client. Also landed plenty of bonitas that will be shark bait tonight.
