With last minute plans falling through, I decided to make a solo trip today. Figured I would try my old stomping grounds of FTL Beach. Got a late start getting in the water close to 9am. The weather was no threat and the water was real calm.
Peddled out with no live bait. Just trolled a plug out to the deep waters and almost snagged a huge sea turtle. Was able to luckily get my line off the turtle without hooking him or putting him under any pressure. Got out to 140 and hooked up on a decent bonnie. Threw him back and went to 160. Immediately hooked up and this fish was a monster. Checking the time on my video, it took my drag for over a minute straight. As it got closer, I realized that I had a monster bonnie. Got him in, but he was so worn he didn't make it back in the drink.
Switched up Jigs to get away from the bonito. 2nd drop and I feel a light hit. Set the hook and the fish is not really fighting. I get him to the surface and realize I have a jumbo BFT. I worked him real slow just before bringing him on the yak. He saved his fight for when I had him on board. While trying to take a picture, he went nuts slipping right back in the water. My fish grip was on his lip and tethered to my kayak. Thank God!! Got him back in and won the fight.
Here are a few pics... I've been working on video but the software I have is giving me a hard time. Video will hopefully be up soon.
