    6/1 ARS-RG's-Mangos out of Sarasota

Ran out Saturday on my good friends new Mojito 23' Panga style CC with twin 90 4s Zukes. Different type of ride that is for sure, but it really did a nice job with the 2-3's. Best part was the gas bill, we were burning 11-12gph @ 30 mph.

We ran out to a spot in 135' between New Pass and Longboat pass, I had found these numbers back in April and new right away it was covered in snapper. I fished it once or twice in May just seeing what was there and found out the Mangos and ARS were stacked up 20' off the bottom. I brought the numbers with me and sure enough we marked a nice pile of fish so we set the anchor. We started with smaller gear and worked our way up to the RG's. Had a nice mixed bag, probably could have done better with the Mangs if we wouldn't have gotten the grouper fired up on large live baits, I think it scared the mangs out. Didn't find any of the monster ARS's we were catching in May either. Had a nice mixed bag though. Dodged the thunderstorms on the way in to boot.

Not much surface action out deep, did pass a bunch of Bonita and Spanish Maks busting bait within 15 miles of the beach.

Little side story with that slob above. Early in the day, I caught a hardly legal "B-liner" on a snapper jig, and put it back down on a 4/0 (In retrospect I probably shouldn't have due to the big boys shutting the snapper bite down) Anyways, that rod got hammered about 5 minutes later. I had the fish a few feet of the bottom, but the leader snapped (100lb mono). About 2-3 hours later we were on the same spot still anchored and I get I get hammered on a Large Live Grunt. I take it easy on the fish and pull him up, sure enough he has the other half of my leader hanging out of his mouth and got my 8/0 Gamagatsu circle octopus 4x back. Greedy SOB.

That Lane is a great dinner. Did you weigh the Grouper?

Yea I love those lanes, been getting a one or two every trip. Didn't weigh that red, but we have been getting big slobs every trip it seems, I'm thinking over 20lbs.

I believe that's the name of the creek where my friend keeps his boat, Track Boat Center. Fairly convenient run to both New pass and Long boat pass. We actually went out of New Pass, and came in Longboat due to a thunderhead over south Sarasota Bay. Just have to watch out for the scum hanging around 41.
