Starting the Grouper season out with a bang.

So when April 1st rang we had to head out to find the grouper. We hit our usual producing grouper grounds but didn't get much. Until sunday we caught lots of bait. Then we headed to our usual grounds again. We picked up a few small fish. Then decided to head out a bit further to search for new grounds. In 70 ft of water we drifted over a magical spot, surrounded by mackerel and broom stick bending grouper. We continued to run the same drift with similar results. Heavy leadheaded jigs tipped with various types of fish did the trick. We also had a dolphin hanging around us for a few spots. Most of the undersized fish made it safely back down but one grouper hung around the surface too long and was captured. After catching the grouper the dolphin held the fish sideways in his mouth and paraded it back and forth for us....as if to say thank you. What any awesome day on the water!

One of the Grouper we caught had a whole crab in his mouth...so I put in on a hook and wam..another grouper.

Great job man.... funny how those porpoise love to play with their food. I have seen them flip snook up and down the mangroves inshore, and be a total pain in the azz offshore by stealing everything. Grouper look great so stay on them!

Nice to see things are starting to pick up in the shallower depths

That is sure a fine report! Congratulations to you. Looks like a beautiful day just to be out there.

I had the parading dolphin thing happen just like that one time. It's just as you say, as if he was sayin thanks.
