I have tried to get a definite response without success. What is the cost of replacing a battery pack on a hybrid car? Let's say I take my Prius (I do not own one) and need to have the battery pack replaced. It wil cost ????? Today (not 6 yrs from now)

Most of the time I get:

1) By the time you need it replaced, there will be new technology and batteries will be much cheaper

2) It will last 100-200k and you do not have to worry about it (I will if I have to trade in the car at 90k!!!)

re: Reel Style

Looks like 2500-4000 bucks but the battery is suppose to last the life of the car, whatever that is. Two links to your questions plus the Prius owners manual (33 meg)

Like to know if emergency crews (fire fighters, EMT, etc) have any additional training/precautions as a result of the high voltage battery pack onboard

Thanks Subsailor!! I wonder if there is a risk of explosion or toxic leaks in an accident.

Yes we do. It has been awhile since I had the training, but from what I remember, the high voltage wiring was color coded so it was obvious what it was. It would not be good to cut into one of the high voltage lines for sure.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

perhaps because it's really cheaper to throw the vehicle away vs replace the battery

I don't know but I think the batteries in hybrids are under warranty for about 8 years.  The second owner is more likely to care or the first owner when they go to trade it in.

re: firemedc1560

The high voltage wiring is orange in color. We have had to have training working on them at my shop. Although we have only done tires, alignments, and oil changes on them.
