i do a lot of bottom fishing in jax/St. A and have gps and loran #s i need to organize and get a better handle on.
is there any software you guys recommend. What about the GPS/loran conversion accuracy. i really need a program to organize my numbers AND Convert the loran over to gps. i have searched the internet and i have found several products. from what i understand the conversions are not really thet close. any feedback is appreciated.
thanks

I had the same problem early in the spring, and ended up purchasing a loran and installing it on the boat because there really isn't an accurate way to convert loran numbers to gps numbers. The only accurate way to do it is get there with your loran, and then mark it on your gps.
I had the same problems as diggendeep. None of the conversion programs are accurate enough to be useful.
Sorry Taylor, but they are right. There is no true conversion, which is why we still sell lorans. You must find the spot with your loran, mark it with your fishfinder to be sure, then tag it on your gps.

There is a software program Andren LoranGPS program www.andren.com, it will organize waypoints in GPS and loran TD's. The conversion utility is very accurate after you calibrate it. You have to know a lat/lon position and the TD's for the same position, you use this to calibrate the program to convert waypoints. I have found the conversion to be very accurate for waypoints within about 50 miles of the calibration point.
I have used Andren software for years (10+). The program works well and has a lot of options. I have never seen a perfect conversion program, but this program lets you customize the conversion by correcting for known points. Andren asks for corrections and seems very responsive to requests.
I agree, Carl makes a great product, and as far as accurate conversion goes, it's the best out there. Nothing is going to be dead on, but it's the closest conversion you will find, other than actually being on the spot and converting it to Loran.
I agree on Andren as well. The more for sure numbers you have in an area the better it is at converting the others in that area.

The Andren program lets you calibrate the correction by entering known gps and Loran waypoints for a local area. This greatly improves the accuracy.
If you don't have a Loran and a gps on the same boat, you can enter data from the commercially available fishing charts for your area that list both type of coordinates for each site. It still won't be right on, but it will get you close. Before I did that, the conversions weren't very useful.
