I've purchased over 8 Shimano reels in the last 3 years, and just recently purchased a Stradic FJ. This was the first time I've bought a reel and it did not come with any of the bantam oil? Was this a mistake or did they stop including them in the boxes?

Also have some other questions:
1. Anyway to order the oil in a bigger bottle?

2.Pertaining to the Stradics, FJ and Ci. Are you guys replacing anything on these to improve the performance? I think I read somewhere that the drag washers can be upgraded fairly cheap?

3. Also, I follow the Shimano recommended cleaning (http://www.shimano.com/publish/conte...%20page%29.pdf). Usually do it after every other trip. I fish saltwater, so they always get a gentle rinse of warm water. Anyways, is there any other cleaning techniques you guys do in addition? I noticed it never mentions adding any grease...

Sorry for the question overload, just trying to keep all of my stuff in top shape and make them last.

Thanks.

I just got a set of 4 shimano spheros 4000FBs for the Bahamas boat because of how pleased I have been with my 10000s. This set will be multipurpose and therefor will require spare spools. (bonefish mono vs spool with braid and maybe another with 6lb hi vis for light tackle dolphin).

I just called shimano for an order and the spare spool for a 4000 is $32!!!! The spare spool for my 10000 is only $18.

I am a huge advocate for shimano and almost all of my personal gear and a lot of what is on the Buddy Davis is shimano. At these prices the Penn Battles are looking really nice and their spare spools only cost $12??????

Probably my favorite light weight reel for my inshore fishing and i've had it for i believe over 10 years now. Today while fishing from a sea wall I noticed that after i made a cast and pulled off a few wraps of line from the spool the drag clicker seemed a lot more quiet than normal. After about 3 casts it stopped making the clicking sound all together although the reel was still applying resistance in a uniform manner. I tried loosening and tightening the drag knob and the drag got either looser or tighter so it appeared to be in working order, just no click. I'm assuming for some reason the spring loaded clicker is not making contact with the toothed gear on the main shaft, i couldnt really see anything strange when i pulled the spool of to investigate:huh:huh:huh My only thought is that the little metal peice that connects to the spring and goest between the teeth on that gear had a piece break off??? Anybody have any similar problems in the past or any ideas on how to figure it out/ fix it?????

First of all, I intend on using it for both salt and freshwater. Obviously, I know the Curado is one of the best anyone can buy, however I'm not entirely sure I want to spend upwards of $300.

I've been researching the Citica because it can be used for saltwater and that's something the Caius doesn't say. I would love a Curado of course, but I'm hoping some of you Shimano experts will tell me why I should stick with the Citica; how good it is for the price and all. lol

Any advice would be appreciated!

Looking for a solid reel, right now i'm in New York so i'll probably be using the reel for Large Mouth Bass fishing (maybe bluefish / stripped bass?)

in a few months when I head back to south FL I may want to use this reel for some back country fishing (redfish/snook/small tarpon/sea trout ect).

Should I go with a 2500 or 3000? I was thinking the 2500 is too small for back country fishing and the 3000 was too big for bass.....

What do you think?

I purchased this model Tallus Spinning last night. The TLS80MHBBL and acording to the specs it should be a 30-65 and it is 40-80 why? Then i looked at the TLS80HBBL which is supose to be 40-80 and it is 50-100 and the specs that Shimano show are not correct to what is printed on the rods.So what are the correct specs for these two rods? Here is the pic of the rod i bought to prove it.

Hey Bantam
I'm looking for a heavier rod for tarpon and Cobia type fishing with live baits.
I own the Compre CPSFL80HC and it's a great rod but was wondering if the Compre CPSFL80XHC has the same single foot guide like it's smaller brother. How would this compare to the Tallus TLS80HBBL for larger fish like tarpon fishing i see the compre has nine guides and the Tallus has six plus tip.How will these differ i see the handle and grips are better suited for fighting bigger fish with the larger foam grips. But what was the Tallus TLS80HBBL designed for. Will is be a better action and more powerful rod for what i'm looking to do compared to the Compre CPSFL80HC and why.

Bantam , I just serviced my stradic fj reels that I bought last year ,a 3000 and 8000 ,getting ready for summer.
Those are with out a doubt the driest reels I have ever seen come from the factory.
Just a dab on of grease on the main gear... The idle gear , worm shaft ,pinion gear and oscillating shafts were basically dry.
I didn't pop the seals on the bearings, but after they were lubed they spun noticeably smoother ,so I would imagine that they were pretty dry.
Just a heads up from the customer end of things.. If all of them are like that I'm sure y'all have noticed this at the repair center. On a side note, it sure would be nice to see a bearing instead of a bushing at the bottom of the worm gear where it sits in the frame, and a couple of bearings in the grips instead of bushings.
