Several times on this forum WATER ENGINEER has recommended the small Canon S-95-100-110 models to folks who want a small sized but quality camera. I needed something pocket sized for a European trip that was smaller than my G-15 and ended up with an Amazon close-out of the S-100 for about $249.

The camera was phenomenal in picture quality and outstanding for low light situations. It really showed its stuff inside of the many churches in Europe where you could not use a flash. I came back with over 2000 images that I have to cull through. Most are good quality shots and I often used the camera AUTO setting for the quick shots and through the window shots. Other times I took advantage of the aperture or shutter priority choices along with exposure adjustments, depending on the situations and subject matter.

Canon has announced their answer to Nikon’s 200-400mm with their new 200-400mm f/4 L USM. It boasts a built-in 1.4x extender which, with the flip of a switch, extends the lens to a 280-560mm f/5.6. Measuring in at 5.0 x 14.4 inches and 127.7 oz, the specs on this beast look amazing, but the price tag is a little surprising. It’s expected to retail for $11,800, nearly twice what Nikon’s is selling for.

I was out taking pictures in the pasture at my house Monday evening and as I sat waiting for the Red wing blackbird to come back to its perch I noticed a bird coming in my direction from the back of my property. To my surprise it was a spoonbill. I was able to sneak over to where it landed and get some pics. The in flight pics are the only ones I was able to get and they are all full frame hence the reason for no room on some of them. I wish he was a little more pink than he was. It almost seemed like he was mostly white with a hint of pink. Oh well I was happy to be able to get what I got. As always CC always welcomed. Thanks for looking!
