Yall check this out....

It was at the north jetties in 1910. The steamship Chatham had sunk there and was a hazard to navigation, so the guy on the right with suspenders on is former Florida Governor Napoleaon Bonaparte Broward.. (I think there is a bridge named after him..)...his brother is to the left of him, they together were contracted to remove the wreck. They decided that the best way to remove it was to blast it with dynamite. And in doing so the charges brought up these 3 Jewfish, each reportedly better than 500 pounds each !!!

Shortly after this picture Napoleon Bonaparte Broward died....(hope it wasn't due to ciguatera poisoning :hairraiser )

This is a copy of a picture...hope it turns out okay...

Thought yall might like to know what prowls those jetties from time to time....and for those of you that have been spooled by unknown creatures....:hairraiser :fishing :grin

heres a couple nice fish caught back to back trips out of mayport. 72 was caught by my mother on mothers day and it was also my birthday so it was a nice treat to put her on it. following trip was Tuesday fished 50-65 ft of water and went 5-7 to 60 lbs. the others wernt much to brag about. its been a tough year so far, weve managed a few fish a trip consistently for the last few weeks but not much size this year, last year it seemed like every other fish was 50+, but anyways heres a few fish I was bored and wanted to post. http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/IMG_0605.jpg http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/x...53577205_n.jpg http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/IMG_0600.jpg never loaded pictures so I hope they work.

Got a late start on the day but headed out to what I thought would be very crowded jetties to catch some reds. Got our pogies off the beach which was pretty rough for the little boat, then headed back inside the jetties. There was no bite inside the inlet so we moved further up the river on the incoming tide. Once we found em' we were getting pretty consistent action on the pogies. The girl I took out today was pretty amped to land this monster of a red, her first fish ever. A true slob red measuring somewhere near 43". The smaller fish was no slouch at 33".

Met up with a newer surf fisherman ralph..he was looking to learn how to read the beach better and just figure out where and why to fish in certain places..

Water was clean with a little current but the wind was blowing a good bit more then expected..

We fished a incoming tide with fresh dead shrimp and clams..ralph stated that he had never caught a pomp before and I told him it was very doubtful that we would find them as they have been very spotty and the conditions were not great for a pomp bite..

We started off at one of my favorite sports and started hitting the whiting pretty good but they were a bit small..11" range.

We moved a good bit up the beach to another spot I like to fish on a incoming tide and as soon as the lines went out the rods were bent over..

Ralph was in a big lady fish and blue hole..he could barley fish 2 rods there was so much action..I was 20 feet north of him in a whiting hole with the same problem..
Then the water turned dirty fast..we were just packing up when Ralph's rod laid over again and we were all thinking it was a mother blue or lady..

it was his first keeper pomp at 12.5"!! Man he was happy

We couldn't pack up now with a potential pomp bite so out went the rods again..nothing but 2 more whiting we threw back..

Great day of fishing with a new fishing buddy..

Oh and his rig is awesome..a motorcycle and trailer hauling all his gear..we looked wiled driving down 95 I'm sure lol

Our Jacksonville Trout whisperer Jimmy Sharpe (jimmy06) took me offshore fishing with the ultra popular, world renowned, master angler Capt. Jerry Moulton (yes I say all those nice words so he would take me again...lol) and his team aboard Jerry's 29 foot contender "Another Tangle"! The crew of Jerry, Jimmy, Phil, Mike and Arun left very early morning Saturday to the Ledge.

Trolling:

Saw a school of football Blackfins jump at 125 foot water. Jerry and Phil moved lightning fast and set up a spread of 4 rods but couldn't get them to bite. Then we went and trolled the ledge. The bite was sporadic.
In the Box: 2 mahi mahi (20 lbs, 53lbs). The beast bit a 20" ladyfish that Jerry had rigged the previous night.
Released: 1 Bonita, 1 barracuda,

Bottom fishing:

Drifted the bottom at about 120 feet over a ledge. The bottom bite was unreal. Every one was hooking up every drift. Many lost monsters. We only fished the bottom for about and hour and a half. Phil put a 48 lb gag grouper on the boat!! Some mahi where hooked on light tackle when hey came to check us out while bottom bumping.
In the box: 5 mahi, 6 scamp grouper, few gag groupers, 5 porgies.
Released: Lesser and greater Amber jacks, a beautiful looking grouper (someone help me out on the name), red snapper.

We left at 2.30 pm as the fish box was already full and we anticipated some possible engine trouble.

Experience:

That was my second offshore trip and I felt like I was in a dream. That water was cobalt blue!! I would never forget this trip in my life. The mahi mahi jumping and tail walking in the air was a beautiful sight to see. We also saw a 15 foot hammerhead shark cruise by us that scared the living daylights out of me. Boy, pulling those groupers up is like pulling a baby elephant from 120 foot water. These offshore monsters definitely whooped me! Thanks very much to Jimmy, Jerry and his crew for having me aboard the "Another Tangle". It was a dream come true! It was a great experience watching Jerry setup the spread for the troll. He is fast!!

My buddy just picked up a new Everglades 243 and we had some good weather to finish the break in. Saturday the seas called for 2-4 out to 60 miles. We decided to prep the boat Friday night and give it our best. After a little GPS trouble at the dock we were on our way. Made it out about 45 miles and put out a spread of ballyhoo. After a few slow hours with no bites we finally heard some drag go off. After a nice fight we had a good 40# hoo in the boat. After a few more hours with no hits, we made our way inshore to do some bottom dropping. Finished the day working out our arms on a bunch of aj's and one to take home with us.

What a way to break the boat in. And what a hell of a ride. It literally rode like we were on a 30' cc.

Left mayport at 6:45 on Friday and caught all the pogies we needed on the north side. Headed south all the way to the red tops. Plenty of bait there but all up on the beach in dirty water. At 10:00 started heading north in 50' and nothing around. Ended up starting to see a few free swimmers. Went two for nine. One school of six all over 40 wouldn't eat the live pogies offered on four casts. Saturday went back out and went 0-3. Had one steal a bait without getting the hook in his mouth. He left me and went to my buddy and stole his too. He was still hungry and came back for my second offering and hooked up for about 2 seconds and pulled the hook then went back to my buddy's bait and knocked it out if the water and waved goodbye. We couldn't believe a fish that aggressive got away. Oh we'll 2-12. That's cobia sight fishing for ya<a href="http://forums.floridasportsman.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=85951&d=1369003125" title="Name: image.jpg
