Has anybody ever tried this? Would a stout 10' rod work well enough or am I just asking for a broken rod? I don't plan on hammering down the drag or have very high hopes of getting grouper off of wrecks; more so looking for beeliners, porgies and snapper suspended a little higher off the bottom.

I only get out a couple times a year and really don't want to buy a boat rod unless I have to.

Thanks.

I just ordered a 7' mhx one piece from mud hole... I wanted to make a spinning rod and went with the recoil eyes.... The very nice expert at mud hole suggested these eyes... #25, #16, #10, and 6 #8L and a tip top... I want to put on a 4000 series reel.... I will be using this mainly for live bait.... Minnow and shrimp fishing.... Looking to see what everyone suggest about eye spacing and if its too many for a spinning rod setup?? Thanks for all the expert input

Hey guys, question for the builders here... Is there a reliable way to determine the "backbone" of the rod, or the feel of the tip based on specs...

Hey guys, question for the builders here... Is there a reliable way to determine the "backbone" of the rod, or the feel of the tip based on specs alone? For instance, does the butt diameter translate to backbone, and the size of the tip translate to how light it is?

Thanks

Almost all the guides look like this and I want to know if I should be concerned about the longevity of this rod since I use it for vertical jigging.
Thoughts?
