Rare Catch - 9-15-2012

I Love fishing in South Florida, because on any given day you never know what you are going to catch. With not much current we headed to some numbers between 200-225 out of Port Everglades and caught 2 yellow-eyes and a giant porgy on squid and pilchards.

I have seen yellow-eyes caught deep dropping in the Bahamas, but never on rod and reel and never off of South Florida. Either way, we were stoked to catch a new fish on the boat on an otherwise slow day.

Nice yelloweyes! I've got them here many times but those are nice sized. Feel free to IM me the exact coordinates.

What kind of rig did you get them on leader or chicken rig?

Nice job on some great eating fish. The Yelloweyes are not as uncommon here as one may think. The problem is they are often mixed in with the Vermilions and its hard to get past the Verm bite to catch them.
There are also some local spots where the Blackfin Snappers show up certain times of the year.

We caught them on a leader rig....I seemed to have forgotten the coordinates, short term memory loss brought on by booze, sorry man..haha:fishing

Great fish....funny how that memory loss comes and goes....usually vodka, rum and/or tequila, not necessarily in that order.

No state record there as I've personally caught some HUGE porgies like that but that's definitely a cool catch and awesome yellows!

Back in the 80's and early 90's we caught a lot of yellow eyes at night off the Helen S.

Get them Yelloweyes in the keys in about 200ft all the time. Lots of work without electric reels. Those two you had there are very nice. CEVICHE YUMM!!! Chopped red onions, chopped cilantro, two very thinly chopped scotch bonnet pepper, salt to tate, lime juice to cover all the above ingredients add the thin chopped yelloweye flesh cover for 30 minutes gets some chips some very cold beer and get something to rest your legs. Just reminded me of the Corona commercial where is the freaking beach!!!! GOT A GO BACK TO WORK is only thursday.
