Horse conch

ResinheadResinhead Posts: 8,861 Admiral

My wife is wondering what are, if any, the limits or regulations on horse conch. She's a shell collector and is asking me if we can take occupied or none occupied shells while diving. Fwc page doesn't really clarify.

Are they any good to eat?

Fairly good to eat. Not as intense a flavor as Queen conch. Tough, tough, tough! I usually slice the meat into thin fillets and then pound them thoroughly with a metal meat tenderizing mallet. Use them with same recipes as Queen conch.

Not in a state park though like Bahia Honda, for example.

i believe if its a living shell you cannot take it or harvest ,,living as in having a living organism with an operculum, so it can seal the shell off with ,i would not consider a crab inside as a living shell.
