Looks like they scrapped the time zone change. Sanity prevailed for once.

So they were/are putting up a bill to put us on daylight savings time all year?

This was the bill to include the panhandle of Florida in the eastern time zone so all of the state would be the same in that regard

@mustang190 are you far from Brewton AL?

Exactly. A solution in search of a problem. There is no problem. I'm not a fan of DST, but rolling Northwest FL into the eastern time zone without asking people who live there is just flat out stupid.

People use statistics the way a drunk uses a street light, for support rather than illumination.

I always wondered the reason behind the time zone line from below Blountstown to the coast.

In Florida history class I remember it had to do with the railroad (they set the time zones) since port St. Joe was the biggest port and railhead and most of their goods and trade was to Atlanta and Jacksonville.

"Ask old-timers in Port St. Joe about that time change, and they'll say that Port St. Joe has always been on Eastern time. They say it's because of Ed Ball, founder and for 35 years the all-powerful president of the St. Joe Paper Co. Ed Ball, they say, wanted Port St. Joe to run on the same time as his mills in Jacksonville. He ran his Port St. Joe paper mills on Eastern time, and the rest of the town followed his lead.

A colorful story, concedes Robert Nedley, vice president of the St. Joe Paper Co. But it's wrong. Ed Ball dabbled with most everything in Port St. Joe, but he didn't mess with its time. Port St. Joe's loyalty to Eastern time, says Nedley, was tied to the railroad. The rail ran from Port St. Joe north to Chattahoochie. Port St. Joe was that line's only depot on Central time. This bollixed up the railroad's timetables. Sometime around 1918, the railroad summarily switched Port St. Joe to Eastern time."

Another useless bill by another legislator trying to legitimize himself.

I may be entitled to compensation.

I know if you're at our place on Cape San Blas you better turn your phone to either Eastern or Central or it'll burn your battery completely down in 1 hour switching back and forth.
