2006 115 Merc, spun a hub or not?

fishonfishon Posts: 921 Officer
I have an unusual problem with my motor. RPMs are going more and MPH going less. Typically 5000rpms will get me 40Mph. But last week 5000rpms was producing 25/30Mph? I looked at my plastic sleeve/hub inside the prop and it appeared to look ok, can a hub look good, but fail under a load and high RPM's. The motor sounds great and lower unit is quiet. Mph measured on GPS. I have new sleeve on order and will water test with mechanic soon, but looking for your constructive thoughts. Thanks

If it is a rubber hub I think it could look fine but slip under load.

Usually when a hub spins, it will do nothing other than idle. More likely it's getting some air and is cavitating or ventilating.

Thanks, I wish to were air? But I've had the boat and never had this issue until last month? Hope to get lucky by changing out the plastic hub liner.

Here's the deal...hose on the back the speedometer had fallow off, the water was coming out of the hose and different times spraying on the ignition, seemingly causing a short. With the hose disconnected from the outboard thre is no more sign of the RPM/MPH issue. Hope this takes care of this freaky issue. Thought I'd share.... mechanic knew something was up when water was spraying out of the console and the only reason we saw the water, was I had just put in a gauge Bluetooth radio. The speedo had not worked for a while, thus caused by disconnected hose. End of report....

I have run the boat, three different outings. It is running like a top. Seems removing a stream of water from spraying water all over the ignition.
