Thanks mono, yes that was me. There are plenty more on youtube, I'll post more links soon. I don't want people to think rodbuildng is hard and overwhelm them with a bunch of videos all at once.

Just started myself. The videos helped a lot. Bought a dryer and wife ordered a power winder for Christmas. Have plenty to learn but everything i've done, replace broken guides etc, the rods are all mine and very usable. Bought an old offshore rod. Might be a Penn Senator, not sure. handle, seat junk. But all roller eyes, one has missing roller but thy cost about $20 each, i believe. Striped the blank, painted it with white Krylon. Plan to paint the eyes black as they're tarnished, red & blue winding. Hey bought it for$2, not bad for a good blank right? or am I crazy? Gonna love the hobby, thanks for videos.

I'd say that most people start off repairing rods and then get into building them. Enjoy the addiction and don't hesitate to ask questions, that's why this board is here.
Not knowing exactly where you are, I'd recommend either finding a local builder to show you the ropes of different techniques or maybe attending a class.

Yup, that's a great way to get started and jump right in. Be carefull when painting the guides and try not to get it in the rings, maybe tape them off. I don't know that the paint would hinder performance all that much but you wouldn't want the ring's surface to be anything but perfectly smooth. Have Fun- Tight Wraps!!

i dont know if you're done rewrapping the rod, if not send me a pm, i'll help you.
you cna't use ordinary paint because permagloss would eat up the paint and you'd end up with a mess. there are some paint permagloss doesnt eat, but when the rod bends, the paint cracks. send me a pm and i can get on it on detail.

As far as winding checks go, there's multiple sizes. How do I figure out what size I would need for a particular blank?
