First fish on fly in saltwater

aaronaaron Posts: 79 Deckhand
Caught trout in rivers before but never tried saltwater. Found a huge school of nice 5# and bigger jacks the other day while looking for bait, threw a greenback-looking fly at em and it was on. Fought a smaller one for about 5 minutes on my 6 wt frshwater rod. I know jacks are easy to catch and arent good for much except a fight, but i know now that im ready to get a nice red or snook!

Nice going. Nothing's better (almost) than coming tight on a fish on fly, wait til you set up on a tarpon, that's when your addiction will really begin!

Glad you are enjoying. Word of caution; Be sure to thoroughly rinse your fresh water gear after using especially the reel.
