1/24 Chunk on Fly
left work a tad bit early...
tied on a bend back that I had **** a few nights before to see how it swam. My buddy was using a gurgler and was getting 2lb bass all day. I ended up tossing towards a culvert, two strips, and the water erupted. Had to remind myself where I was because it was such an aggressive strike I imagined tarpon or big snook. Solid chunk. Need to figure out how to not make my fish look smaller in the photos.

Bass fishing is great. They are so eager and aggressive it's how I've been testing out flies. Can't just do a pool when i want to cast it and strip it in plus have a chance to see if it stays together.
Anyone know what kind of flies would be effective to throwing into heavy cover on Lake O for the bass beds?
Frog patterns in season, something "slider-ish". Mice. My usual approach is to throw something big. Important part is an effective weed guard so that you can get the pattern to come thru and not effect your hookup rate too badly. A big part of coming thru cleanly is stripping the line in short strips when your fly is approaching a weed or pad. Give the fly time to ease over the obstacle rather than trying to brute force it thru. Also, when your fly slides off the pad/weed/whatever, let it sit just a bit and then one small twitch. You're trying to draw a strike from a lurking fish and you want to give it just enough time to be seen and then be seen as alive.
Reach casts to "parade" long the edge of stuff can be useful too.
